Well, Perry has been chugging along, pumping nutrients into her/his berries, and some of them are now big orange whoppers. In addition, a few of them have ripened and fallen from the infructescence, and they contain seeds! Those first seeds have been sown (thanks Bob and Matt), and we await the result.
Ok – now I’ll put a damper on this. Sorry. Mo Fayyez of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, told me via e-mail that vicarious pollination has occurred with their Amorphophallus titanum plants (and they grow a lot of them). So – perhaps Perry’s housefly-induced self-fertile progeny are sterile. We’ll see….
What is “vicarious pollination”?
Great job on the care of your amorphallus. Those berries sure look festive.
Keep us updated on the first seed that have been planted.
