Hawk Watching with Bob Posted on September 26th, 2007 by

Here are the results from hawk-watching on September 25th. I did two observation periods:the first from 1:30 to 2:30 PM, and the second from 4:00 to 5:30 PM.

Turkey Vulture: 11
Sharp-shinned Hawk: 2
Broad-winged Hawk: 5
Red-tailed Hawk: 3

That makes 21 individuals of 4 raptor species. Not bad.

Other birds observed migrating:

Franklin’s Gull: several flocks, one of which held over 100 birds
Canada Goose: three flocks totaling 62 birds
Blue Jay: one flock of 29 birds

I’ll continue to post whenever I plan to hawkwatch. I’m thinking Friday afternoon (September 28th) will be the next time…I’m done with classes around 12:30, so probably starting at 1:00 PM Friday is when I’ll be in the grass in front of Old Main. Anyone is welcome to stop by.
